NEWSVodafone's Express Capacity Promises 400G Links Across Europe Within 15 Days

Vodafone unveiled Express Capacity on 14 October, a service designed to give organisations access to high-capacity optical transport links in days rather than the weeks or months typically associated with network provisioning. The initial offer covers 100G and 400G connectivity across key European routes linking London, Paris, Amsterdam, Frankfurt, Marseille and Milan, with the operator targeting delivery within 15 days.

Rather than building capacity after an order arrives, Vodafone has pre-provisioned infrastructure and optical equipment across selected routes and created buffer stock, allowing services to be activated more rapidly and capacity to be deployed more flexibly as demand patterns evolve.

The operator says the service responds to increasingly dynamic connectivity requirements as organisations establish new cloud regions, interconnect data centres, support sovereign cloud deployments and absorb growing AI-driven traffic. "The challenge is no longer only capacity, but capacity in the right place, available at the right time," said Oscar Monteagudo of Vodafone, adding that customers now expect deliverables much more quickly — and increasingly want capacity that is portable.

Background and analysis. AI infrastructure is reshaping not just how much connectivity is needed, but where and how fast. Distributed training clusters, new cloud regions and sovereign cloud requirements are turning bandwidth into a product with a delivery SLA. Vodafone's move reflects a broader shift among carriers to productise capacity — competing on speed of delivery as much as on price per bit.

Our take. Pre-provisioning is a bet that demand will materialise on the chosen routes, and buffer stock carries cost — but in a market where customers increasingly ask for "capacity there and then", the model turns network agility into a differentiator. Watch whether Vodafone extends the approach beyond Europe, and whether rivals match the 15-day promise.
